Another attempt

More progress.

Another attempt at this part. The previous attempt was more in the ballpark but not quite where I need it. This attempt I took what I learned and adjusted some. Initially, I thought it wouldn't work because I tried to not do as my spins leading up to the coil part - which may the coiling part of it more difficult and less accurate. However, I was able to get head of this issue and get a solid coil. The next part was the wings. In prior attempts I made the wings flat and then bent them up. Bending them up did not work that well. This time I bent them as I came to each section which led to slightly easier bends and more accurate bends - sort of. While the wings are better, I had to make the last coil a little more open then I like. So now I am having it sit in the vise as I flatten it and then I will attempt to tighten up that coil some.

So the short version of this note:

  • Another attempt.

  • Wings look better but last coil is larger.

  • Currently it is sitting in the vise to set and I am doing small forced bends to flatten the bottom.

  • Next step will be attempting to tighten that last coil.

What I learned:
Bending the wings as I get to them seems to work better, but makes the coiling after that a little trickier. We will see if this approach works or if I have to try again.
