Joshua Hubbell
Photographer and Mixed-Media Artist
Artist Statement
My work is concerned less with traumatic events themselves than with what happens afterward: recovery, adaptation, memory, caregiving, and the ways those experiences continue to shape people and relationships. Photography has been the foundation of my practice, while sculpture and mixed media allow me to approach those same ideas through physical materials and space.
Process
Photography and Material
I work primarily with digital photography, alongside sculpture and mixed media. My process often begins with observation and photography, then develops through experimentation with physical materials including rebar, wood, and clay. The choice of material depends on the work and what it needs to communicate, rather than adherence to a single medium or process.
